FAQ / First Time
What is bouldering?
Bouldering is a style of rock climbing done on shorter walls without ropes or harnesses. Climbers stay closer to the ground, and thick padded mats are used for safety. Routes (called “problems”) focus on strength, technique, and problem-solving.
Do I need experience?
No experience is necessary! Bouldering is beginner-friendly, and we offer routes for all skill levels—from first-timers to advanced climbers. Staff are always available to give gym intros to new guests.
Do I need my own gear?
Nope! You can rent everything you need at the gym, including climbing shoes and chalk. If you climb regularly, you may eventually want your own gear, but it’s not required to get started.
Is there an age requirement?
Rocksteady welcomes kids as young as 5 to climb with adult supervision in our children section. Main area is restricted to older climbers. It’s best to check your gym’s specific rules.
Weight Limit?
No weight limit for bouldering. Auto belay climbing does have a weight restriction.
What’s included with a day pass?
A day pass gives you full access to the climbing and training areas for the remainder of the day (according to schedule) from the time of purchase. Gear rental and classes will be extra.
What to wear? And what not to...
Wear comfortable, flexible clothing you can move in—like athletic shorts, leggings, or joggers, and a t-shirt or tank top. Avoid anything too loose or restrictive. Climbing shoes (rented or owned) are required on the walls. NO topless climbing(Sports or crop top OK- sorry- no nips!)
